When & where was ‘THING’ born?
THING was founded 1. July 1997 in Herning, Denmark and is still owned by the founder Kenneth Christiansen.
How would you describe the look & feel of ‘THING’ as a collection?
The THING collection is created with a focus on natural fibres combined with creative & effortless silhouettes, the perfect mixture of easy basics and seasonal trend colours. We mix up soft fabric qualities with special details and it’s all about comfort. The shapes and fitting are beautifully cut, starting from size Small to 4XL. THING is all about personality and a strong personal look. Our customer is feminine and aims to be ageless.
Where is it designed?
THING is designed in Herning, in close cooperation with the independent boutique owners in different countries and MDA in England.
Where is it made & what is special about your production & manufacturing?
All the production of the THING garments are made in Poland (patterns, dying, cutting, sewing and finishing etc…). The fabric and dyes are mainly Oeko-Tex certificated (‘Oeko-Tex labels and certificates confirm the human-ecological safety of textile products and leather articles from all stages of production (raw materials and fibres, yarns, fabrics, ready-to-use end products) along the textile value chain. Some also attest to socially and environmentally sound conditions in production facilities’ – source – Wikipedia) and are all of EU origin. The European production makes THING very environment friendly, as everything is transported by trucks inside Europe. That means the use of boats and flights from Asia are never required.
THING is not only linen, but linen has been the main fabric in the THING collection since the start. Therefore we specialize in the production of this beautiful fabric. The linen structure is both horizontal and vertical, this gives the beautiful linen look with the correct weight of the fabric, therefore less creasing. After the garments are sewed, they are then washed and dried. The shrinking in this process ensures the garment keeps its shape & makes the fabric beautifully & elegantly soft.
What is your relationship with the people who make the clothes?
THING has two cooperation partners in Poland (Ewa and Grazyna), who take care of all production. Ewa and Grazyna, have had their own sewing companies in the past, but now work for THING exclusively. Years of experience, knowledge & friendship ensures that the collection is made with consistency, thought & care.
Where do you find your inspiration each season?
Mainly from our customers thoughts & feedback, travel and several European Fabric fairs.
Why should customers choose to buy ‘THING’?
THING is environmentally friendly, uses high quality thoughtful fabrics, with interesting & creative design, with a focus on shape and fitting at very good prices.
